Search Engine Optimization (SEO):
It is a combination of tools and process to increase the traffic and ranking of your website in search engines using your targeted keywords by natural way. In SEO you should use unique content and build quality backlinks for get good results. SEO is a best to increase the visibility of your website. In SEO we follow two type of optimization process like
On-page optimization
Off-page optimization
Search Engine Marketing(SEM):
It is a process to increase the traffic of your website and popular your products, business and Brand by paid search engines. It is the surety to show your website in top results related to your targeted keywords searches. In SEM you need not to use any optimization process means content, image optimization.. etc and need not to build backlinks because you buy some space on internet for advertise your website.

So the main difference between SEO and SEM is that SEO is simply one aspect of the much bigger SEM.
